More Than a Pretty (type) Face, Professional Practice and Techniques for Hand-Lettered Logo Design

In this workshop students will learn the art of creating a unique logotype incorporating handlettering—for their business or personal project.

Designer and educator Precious Bugarin will give students a primer on logo design; infused with history and the art of fine typography. She will take you through brainstorming exercises to help you build the story of your logo. Well designed logos are more than pretty faces—there is meaning embedded in each stroke. Learn how to create that meaning through research, practice, and thoughtful execution.

Calligrapher Bryn Chernoff of Paperfinger will introduce you to fundamental techniques and tools of contemporary calligraphy and hand-lettering. Students will learn through guided exercises about how to manipulate writing instruments to create different effects, moods and styles. Like a real-life project, Bryn will lead the group in responsive work to address the specific logo assignment and guidelines in an effort to build a working design.

Learn about collaboration and the design process as Bryn and Precious work together on solving real design problems as a team. Discover their steps to getting your logo just right and how branding & design expertise interacts with hand-lettering and execution.

Workshop ticket prices are $65. Calligraphy kits will be sold at the workshop for $12, please bring cash. We will email participants our room number and supplies list.
