The Power of Design: Josh Higgins, Moderated by Aaron Draplin

WeMake presents sketchXchange with creative director, typographer, and designer Josh Higgins. Josh will showcase a multitude of original silkscreen art, talk about his work with type legend Doyald Young, what it was like working with President Obama, and how he leads the brand team of Facebook. The conversation will be moderated by friend and local favorite Aaron Draplin.

Currently a creative director in The Factory at Facebook , Josh leads a multidisciplinary team of art directors and designers focused on brand communication for the company. In 2013, Josh concluded his role as Design Director for President Obama's 2012 campaign where Josh built and led the design team for the historic 2012 political campaign in which the web, design, and technology played a pivotal role. Josh and the team were tasked with designing the Obama 2012 campaign both online and offline. With roots in both advertising and graphic design, Josh's work has earned him national honors and he dedicates a percentage of his time to social causes.

He has done extensive work for brands including Asics Footwear, HP, Yamaha, Fender Guitars, Tony Hawk Foundation, Perry Ellis International, Kyocera, Bolle & Serengeti Eyewear, Newcastle Brown Ale, and Life Technologies.

Founded in 2011, WeMake has helped fuel a passion for learning, sharing, and creating in Oregon’s creative community. This volunteer-run collective fulfills their mission of fostering art and design by offering hands-on experiences, creative dialogue, and design-in-action initiatives. Throughout the year, WeMake holds hands-on maker workshops and a collaborative artist discussion series called sketchXchange. In the past four years WeMake has raised over $40,000 for arts education in Portland's public schools.
